HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – A FLASH FLOOD WARNING has been issued for parts of Oahu due to heavy rain that’s causing stream levels to rise in windward areas.
The National Weather Service in Honolulu said the warning is in effect until 10:15 p.m.
The weather service said radar showed heavy showers and storms anchored over the windward side, with peak rainfall rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour.
Water levels in streams are sharply rising, especially in the Kahana Stream where the heaviest showers have been occurring.
Surrounding streams are likely to continue with runoff impacting low-lying areas and roads.
Locations that can experience flash flooding include Honolulu, Waiahole, Waikane, Kahaluu, Ahuimanu, Kaaawa, Aiea, Punaluu, Pearl City, Halawa, Kaneohe, Moanalua, Mililani, Salt Lake, Kaneohe Marine Base, Hauula, Kalihi, Wahiawa, Maunawili and Kailua.
