The man and woman in their 20s were detained for two weeks over the ‘inappropriate’ photos.
The incident concerned a man exposing his buttocks while a woman took pictures, according to Japanese media outlets.
The Embassy of Japan in China confirmed that two Japanese nationals were detained by local authorities in a statement.
They were “subsequently released and returned to Japan during January,” the Embassy stated.
