Red Flag Warning for Portions of Maryland

DMV

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Red Flag Warning in effect until 7pm this evening for portions of Northern Virginia, Central Maryland (including all of Montgomery County), and Washington DC.

Per the NWS, we can “expect northwest winds of 15 to 20 mph with gusts around 25 to 35 mph. Relative humidity around 15 to 30 percent, with the lowest values most likely in Virginia. Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Fuel moisture falling to less than 10 percent.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.”
