Californians to Get More Warning on Unemployment Claim Denials


Californian unemployment insurance claim denials will be communicated more clearly and quickly under a new proposed settlement.

The state’s Employment Development Department will be required to send benefit denial and overpayment notices digitally, rather than by mail, if a California Superior Court, Alameda County judge grants a Wednesday request to approve the settlement. The notices will be written at an eighth grade reading level, rather than the current college level standard, plaintiffs’ counsel wrote in a news release.
