Strong winds can delay flights, knock down power lines and tree branches, as well as topple over semi-trucks.
Thursday’s wind gusts exceeded 50mph for much of northern Nevada. A strong area of high pressure and warm weather collided with a strong low and cool weather to produce gusty winds in the Truckee Meadows Thursday.
It will still be breezy on Friday, but not as bad as Thursday. It will be breezy in the Sierra as well, so keep that in mind if you plan on going skiing.
There will also be a decent amount of chop on the water.
Wind gusts Thursday ranged from well over 100mph in the Sierra, to 70mph in wind prone areas near Reno. Hikers experienced 65mph wind gusts along the Hunter Creek Trail as well. The Reno Airport saw a peak wind gust of 61mph Thursday.
Wind speeds will be lighter Saturday, before another storm moves in later this weekend into the beginning of April.
