Students, former residents protest to save on-campus housing at University of Florida

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – The fences are up, but that didn’t stop a group from gathering Wednesday evening at the University of Florida to protest the demolition of some on-campus housing.

Students and former residents are trying to convince leaders from tearing down Maguire Village and University Village South, which closed in 2023.

The group also plans to speak at Friday’s board of trustees meeting.

UF officials say demolition is scheduled to start in phases in June.
