The Latinx Center holds Cesar Chavez Day luncheon

FLINT, Mich. – The Latinx Technology and Community Center held their annual Cesar Chavez Day Luncheon Saturday.

It was held at the Flint Institute of Arts and honored the legacy of two important labor rights leaders, Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta.

At the event, speakers recounted the history of the two leaders and the formation of the United Farm Workers union, which Chavez co-founded.

Scholarships were also given to two local college students as well as the Chavez Service award, which recognizes individuals that have made an impact on the local community.

Lauren Coney the Latinx Center advancement coordinator said the event honors Chavez’s legacy with its focus on community.

“I think at the root of it, its about community. We have community members, we have LATINX board members here, we have community partners, just bringing the community together to just celebrate,” said Coney

Attendees to the event also networked, listened to a mariachi performer and enjoyed a lunch catered by the Flint Social Club.
