DIAZ, Ark. (KATV) — The National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed that an EF-4 tornado struck Arkansas during Friday night’s round of severe storms.
NWS officials said that their storm team found EF-4 consistent tornado damage near Diaz in Jackson County. The tornado is estimated to have had peak winds of about 190 mph.
This is the state’s first EF-4 tornado since December 10, 2021, when one hit Craighead County.
Before that, the last EF-4 was on April 27, 2014 in Mayflower-Vilonia.
NWS officials also said they found EF-3 consistent damage in Fifty-Six (Stone County), with estimated peak winds of 140 mph, and EF-2 consistent damage in Fitzhugh (Woodruff County), with estimated peak winds of 120 mph.
