Crews rush to a fire at Dyno Nobel near Biwabik, plant holds chemicals for mining industry

Crews rush to a fire at Dyno Nobel near Biwabik, plant holds chemicals for mining industry


Crews responded to a fire on Tuesday morning, March 18, at a plant which holds chemicals used by the mining industry. The call came in around 10:45 a.m. According to Northland Fire Wire, authorities have evacuated the area within one mile of the plant.

The Dyno Nobel plant holds explosives for the mining industry. St. Louis County officials have confirmed an incident occurred at the Dyno Nobel plant and that authorities are implementing an evacuation of a 3,000 feet radius.

Multiple departments rushed out to Dyno Nobel, which is located on Vermilion Trail in Biwabik Township, Minnesota.

According to the Northland Fire Wire, emergency vehicles are staged along Highway 4, which is open for now.

Biwabik, Biwabik Township, Lakeland, and Fayal Township firefighters are at the scene, with officers from the Gilbert, East Range, St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, and Minnesota State Patrol.
