AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Xcel Energy is preparing to temporarily shut power off to just over 1,100 customers in the Texas and New Mexico service area today.

According to a news release, this is based on weather forecasts indicating extremely high wind speeds and low relative humidity, in addition to abundant fire fuels on the ground.

Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is a targeted measure of last resort when other methods are not enough to ensure public safety.

The company expects these outages to being between 11:00 a.m. central time and 1:00 p.m.

The extreme weather may lead to other outages due to the strong winds that could damage power lines.

To prepare for a power shutoff, you can look up your address online to find out if you may be impacted.

Restoration efforts will begin once wildfire and weather-related risks have subsided. Xcel expects this to be around 10:00 p.m. central time.
