TAMPA, Fla. (WKBN) – Former Cleveland Guardians pitcher Carlos Carrasco will be on the New York Yankees opening day roster, according to general manager Brian Cashman.
Yankees starting pitcher Clarke Schmidt was placed on the injured list, which opened up a spot for Carrasco, who was a non-roster invite to spring training.
In five outings this spring, Carrasco owns a 1.69 earned run average across 16 innings pitched.
Last season in 21 games for Cleveland, the 38-year-old posted a record of 3-10 with a 5.64 ERA.
The right-hander was then designated for assignment by the Guardians last September.
Prior to last season, he spent three seasons with the Mets after Cleveland traded him to New York in the deal involving Francisco Lindor.
