PORTLAND, Maine — March has been relatively quiet for most communities outside of the mountains and north, receiving very little snow so far. There are a lot of spring signs too—I even saw crocuses and other bulbs poking through the ground yesterday in my neighborhood. But March can be, and usually is, cruel. A storm system will slide through the Gulf of Maine this afternoon, interacting with cold air and dropping snow through the afternoon and evening. Driving and commuting will be very challenging. Along the coast, mild air will work in flipping snow to rain, limiting accumulations, and keeping the impact low.
The storm will depart Monday evening, with the rest of the week looking uneventful.
Here’s a look at Monday’s timeline and snow map.
